Um... context? --jmax, Wed, 03 May 2006 16:26:18 -0700 reply
Letters? To whom? About what? I think I'm missing a little bit of context here. Is this an arts and crafts thing? A political activism thing? A volunteer labour thing?

You can write letters to anyone, but usually your friends and relatives. You show up at the store, and they give you paper and pens and envelopes (or you can bring your own stationery), and there are typewriters you can use, and tea and cookies, and it's free, and it's fun! Get there at 7 pm in order to get a seat, 'cause it fills up quick.

Yup. That's what it sounds like. I got an email from them about the Letter Writing Club but there wasn't too much info on there.

OK, let me get this straight. A whole bunch of (20-something) people get together in the evening at a Main St. location to engage with lost art of hand correspondence (or, alternatively, to engage with the lost craft of typewriting) while consuming cookies that somebody baked, and drinking not-coffee/not-beer. And it's oversubscribed. Are there bands, too? It sounds almost frighteningly "hip".

"Arty hipsters" is the term the Courier article used. There are no bands.
I had a good time last night. You should come next month.
